Diego
Barajas (Bogotá, Colombia) holds a PhD in Architecture from ETSAM in Madrid
where he completed his doctorate in 2016 with a thesis entitled
«Productive
Housing: Battlefields»
(Cum Laude). In his professional work he
establishes a permanent dialogue between research and design, theory and
practice. Since 2003, he has co-directed the architecture, gardening, and
urbanism studio Husos arquitecturas with Camilo Garcia. The studio aims to
explore various approaches to address the urgent issue of climate change. Based
in Madrid, Husos operates regularly between Spain and Colombia.
Diego holds a Master's degree from the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam
and studied architecture at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. He has
taught at the European University of Madrid, the IE University School of
Architecture and the Rotterdam Academy, among other institutions. He is the
author of Dispersion, a Study of Global
Mobility and the Dynamics of a Fictional Urbanism (Episode Publishers,
Rotterdam, 2002). The book has been included in the permanent collection of the
Rotterdam Museum of History and the FRAC Centre in Orleans. Together with
Camilo García, he is the author of the book Urbanisms
of Remittances, (Re)productive houses in Dispersion (Caniche Editorial,
Madrid, 2017).
This book was awarded by ArtsLibris Fundació Sabadell in 2019
and is currently part of the permanent art collection of the Fundació Banc
Sabadell in Barcelona.
His projects and texts have been
published in various magazines and books, including Futuros mejores and Más
allá de lo Humano by Bartlebooth publishers, Harvard Design Magazine, Volume
magazine, 2G Dossier, Abitare, Arquitectura Viva, Domus, Plot, ED, Revista
Arquitectos, L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, Space Craft, Summa+, Hunch, Avivre,
and Project Russia. He has given lectures at various universities and institutions,
such as Floating University in Berlin, Columbia University in New York, KTH and
Konstfack in Stockholm, Quito Biennial, Lund University, Central Society of
Architects in Buenos Aires, Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and Bucharest,
Escola de Cidade in Sao Paulo, University of Cape Town, Recyclart Brussels,
Taller Danza in Montevideo, Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, COAM Madrid,
Universidad San Buenaventura in Cali, Universidad Gabriela Mistral in Santiago,
